Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a torrid season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with former mentor his previous coach.
Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's initial trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hard court from March of 2023.
Victory also means he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one various events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.
But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.
He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the concluding five points to take the lead.
Both players swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
Moutet defended 4 early chances in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
